Microsoft's big problem with Windows Phone 7

This is my first blog post. I have created blog accounts in the past and thought of blogging few things. However i have never  done it before.

Today I really got pissed of by the attitude of a T-Mobile sales man and it led to this blog post. I have seen many videos of WP7 in the web and also read many articles about the platform. Though it does not offer everything offered by rival platforms, i think it is a good start and it provides an opportunity for me create apps using .net. Its just my obvious platform choice as .net developer. I want to buy a good WP7 device soon. So I went to one of the T-Mobile stores in the Tampa Bay area and inquired about the WP7 phones.

The sales associate started pissing me off through his arrogant response as below.

Me: Will you be selling WP7 devices on the launch day? I would like to buy one. Also can you show me HTC HD2 as i think HD7 will be similar....

Sales guy: I suggest you take a look at some other google.... blah blah....

Me: Excuse me. I am asking about WP7....

Sales guy: Yeah but WP7 is just a windows phone... its not as good as.....

Me: I know what it is.... I have done my research and i just want that....

Sales guy: Its just an improvement to old Windows Mobile. blah blah....

Me: I said i am a developer on Microsoft platform and I know what i am doing.... You need not teach me. I am not gonna buy from you for sure.

A few points to take away from the above conversation.

1. The so called Microsoft launch partner (T-Mobile) sales guy is trying to turn down a potential customer for WP7.
2. It is at least ok if he is not trying to sell a WP7. But he is going beyond his way to make sure he creates a negative impact on the WP7 sales. Thats bad.
3. Microsoft has to some how make sure its partners are not creating any negative impact on WP7 sales.
4. Microsoft has to make sure its direct or indirect sales representatives are enthused to sell the WP7 phones....
5. Microsoft may use its muscle to provide some kind of indirect incentives to sales force to push out more WP7 devices.... That can be more effective than just putting some advertisements / commercials which may not reach all the potential end customers out there....

I hope WP7 is a gr8 success and MS backs it as far as possible....
